Details
A vulnerability was found in NVIDIA GPU Display Driver on Windows (Hardware Driver Software) (affected version not known). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function DxgDdiEscape in the library nvlddmkm.sys of the component Kernel Mode Layer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a array index vulnerability (Kernel Memory). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-129. The product uses untrusted input when calculating or using an array index, but the product does not validate or incorrectly validates the index to ensure the index references a valid position within the array. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
All versions of the NVIDIA Windows GPU Display Driver contain a vulnerability in the kernel mode layer (nvlddmkm.sys) handler for DxgDdiEscape where user provided input used as an array size is not correctly validated allows out of bound access in kernel memory and may lead to denial of service or potential escalation of privileges
The bug was discovered 05/15/2017. The weakness was published 05/09/2017 (Website). The advisory is available at nvidia.custhelp.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-0345 since 11/23/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
