The bug was discovered 05/09/2017. The weakness was disclosed 05/09/2017 by Symeon Paraschoudis with SensePost as KB4019472 as confirmed security update guide (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-0190 since 09/09/2016. Attacking locally is a requirement. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 100057 (Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 May 2017 Security Updates), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91369 (Microsoft Windows Security Update May 2017).
Applying the patch KB4019472 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at catalog.update.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (100057) and SecurityFocus (BID 98298†). The entries VDB-100999, VDB-101004, VDB-101011 and VDB-101021 are pretty similar. Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
