The Microsoft Server Message Block 1.0 (SMBv1) allows denial of service when an attacker sends specially crafted requests to the server, aka "Windows SMB Denial of Service Vulnerability". This CVE ID is unique from CVE-2017-0273 and CVE-2017-0280.
The bug was discovered 05/09/2017. The weakness was released 05/09/2017 by Nicolas Joly as KB4019472 as confirmed security update guide (Website). The advisory is shared for download at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-0269 since 09/09/2016. The exploitation is known to be difficult. A denial of service vulnerability exists in the Microsoft Server Block Message (SMB) when an attacker sends specially crafted requests to the server. An attacker who exploited this vulnerability could cause the affected system to stop responding until it is manually restarted. To attempt to exploit this issue, an attacker would need to send specially crafted SMB requests to the target system.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 100464 (Microsoft Windows SMBv1 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91369 (Microsoft Windows Security Update May 2017).
Applying the patch KB4019472 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at catalog.update.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
