A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Apple macOS up to 10.12.4 (Operating System). Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component Accessibility Framework. The bug was discovered 05/10/2017. The weakness was shared 05/15/2017 by Ian Beer (OSS-Fuzz) with Google Project Zero as HT207797 as confirmed advisory (Website). Required for exploitation is a single authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The advisory points out:
A memory corruption issue was addressed with improved memory handling.
A public exploit has been developed by Google Security Research and been published 2 weeks after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 5 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 100270 (macOS 10.12.x < 10.12.5 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks and running in the context c. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370396 (Apple macOS Sierra Security Update 10.12.5, El Capitan 2017-002 and Yosemite 2017-002 Not Installed (2017-002)).
Upgrading to version 10.12.5 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
