Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Cisco Snort++ (the affected version unknown) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component Protocol Decoder. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

Cisco Sourcefire Snort 3.0 before build 233 has a Buffer Overread related to use of a decoder array. The size was off by one making it possible to read past the end of the array with an ether type of 0xFFFF. Increasing the array size solves this problem.

The bug was discovered 05/15/2017. The weakness was presented 05/15/2017 as cisco-sa-20170515-snort as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at tools.cisco.com.
