A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Sitecore CRM 8.1 Rev 151207 (Customer Relationship Management System). This affects an unknown code of the file sitecore/shell/download.aspx. The manipulation of the argument file with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Sitecore CRM 8.1 Rev 151207 allows remote authenticated administrators to read arbitrary files via an absolute path traversal attack on sitecore/shell/download.aspx with the file parameter.
The bug was discovered 05/19/2017. The weakness was released 05/23/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared at research.aurainfosec.io.
