CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Open vSwitch 2.6.1. This vulnerability affects the function extract_l3_ipv6/extract_l4_tcp/extract_l4_udp in the library lib/conntrack.c of the component Firewall. The manipulation as part of a IP Packet leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In lib/conntrack.c in the firewall implementation in Open vSwitch (OvS) 2.6.1, there is a buffer over-read while parsing malformed TCP, UDP, and IPv6 packets in the functions `extract_l3_ipv6`, `extract_l4_tcp`, and `extract_l4_udp` that can be triggered remotely.

The bug was discovered 03/22/2017. The weakness was released 05/29/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at mail.openvswitch.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-9264 since 05/28/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 68 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 101648 (Fedora 26 : openvswitch (2017-671e8c760f)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 236496 (Red Hat Update for openvswitch (RHSA-2017:2727)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 3 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (101648). Entry connected to this vulnerability is available at VDB-101737. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
