A vulnerability was found in Watchguard Server Center 11.7.4. It has been classified as critical. Multiple untrusted search path vulnerabilities in (1) Watchguard Log Collector (wlcollector.exe) and (2) Watchguard WebBlocker Server (wbserver.exe) in WatchGuard Server Center 11.7.4, 11.7.3, and possibly earlier allow local users to gain privileges via a Trojan horse wgpr.dll file in the application s bin directory.
The bug was discovered 07/29/2013. The weakness was published 09/08/2013 by Julien Ahrens with RCE Security as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The public release happened without involvement of Watchguard. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-5701 since 09/05/2013. An attack has to be approached locally. The successful exploitation requires a authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. The exploit is shared for download at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 41 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. Applying the patch Patch announced for Q4-2013 is able to eliminate this problem.
