game-music-emu before 0.6.1 allows local users to cause a denial of service (divide by zero and process crash).
The bug was discovered 12/15/2016. The weakness was disclosed 06/06/2017 by Chris Evans (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-9960 since 12/15/2016. An attack has to be approached locally. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 173 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 900013 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 169453 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update for libgme (SUSE-SU-2016:3250-1)).
Upgrading to version 0.6.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
