Cisco Telepresence Codec/Collaboration Endpoint Session Initiation Protocol Packet resource management

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Cisco Telepresence Codec and Collaboration Endpoint (Unified Communication Software) (the affected version unknown). Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the component Session Initiation Protocol. The manipulation as part of a Packet leads to a resource management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-399. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

A vulnerability in the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) of the Cisco TelePresence Codec (TC) and Collaboration Endpoint (CE) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a TelePresence endpoint to reload unexpectedly, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability is due to a lack of flow-control mechanisms within the software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a flood of SIP INVITE packets to the affected device. An exploit could allow the attacker to impact the availability of services and data of the device, including a complete DoS condition. This vulnerability affects the following Cisco TC and CE platforms when running software versions prior to TC 7.3.8 and CE 8.3.0. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCux94002.

The bug was discovered 06/07/2017. The weakness was presented 06/08/2017 as cisco-sa-20170607-tele as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at tools.cisco.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-6648 since 03/09/2017. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 100838 (Cisco TelePresence Endpoint SIP INVITE Packet Flood DoS (cisco-sa-20170607-tele)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CISCO and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 38673 (Cisco TelePresence Endpoint Denial of Service Vulnerability (cisco-sa-20170607-tele)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (100838) and SecurityFocus (BID 98934†). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
