The ASN.1 parser in strongSwan before 5.5.3 improperly handles CHOICE types when the x509 plugin is enabled, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via a crafted certificate.

The weakness was released 06/08/2017 by OSS-Fuzz (Website). The advisory is shared for download at debian.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-9023 since 05/16/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
