The advisory is shared at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-8515 since 05/03/2017. The exploitation is known to be difficult. A denial of service vulnerability exists in Microsoft Windows when an unauthenticated attacker sends a specially crafted kernel mode request. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could cause a denial of service on the target system, causing the machine to either stop responding or reboot. The security update addresses the vulnerability by changing how Windows handles certain types of kernel mode requests.

Applying the patch KB4022715 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at catalog.update.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
