An out-of-bounds read vulnerability with the Opus encoder when the number of channels in an audio stream changes while the encoder is in use. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 54, Firefox ESR < 52.2, and Thunderbird < 52.2.
The bug was discovered 06/13/2017. The weakness was disclosed 06/13/2017 by Holger Fuhrmannek (Nils) with Microsoft Vulnerability Research as MFSA 2017-15 as confirmed security advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-7758 since 04/12/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
