This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-7770 since 04/12/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370431 (Mozilla Firefox Multiple Vulnerabilities. (mfsa2017-15,mfsa2017-16)).
Upgrading to version 54.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
