A vulnerability was found in Poppler up to 0.55 (Document Reader Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file GfxState.cc of the component pdftocairo. The manipulation as part of a PDF Document leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Stack buffer overflow in GfxState.cc in pdftocairo in Poppler before 0.56 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted PDF document.
The bug was discovered 06/21/2017. The weakness was released 06/22/2017 by Alberto Garcia with Cisco (Website). The advisory is shared at bugs.freedesktop.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-9775 since 06/21/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
