Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in GNU PSPP 0.10.5-pre2 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function hash_int of the component libpspp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

There is an Integer overflow in the hash_int function of the libpspp library in GNU PSPP 0.10.5-pre2. For example, a crash was observed within the library code when attempting to convert invalid SPSS data into CSV format. A crafted input will lead to a remote denial of service attack.

The bug was discovered 07/19/2017. The weakness was disclosed 07/02/2017 (Website). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-10791 since 07/01/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
