Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Xen up to 4.8.x (Virtualization Software). This issue affects an unknown part of the component P2M. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Xen through 4.8.x does not validate memory allocations during certain P2M operations, which allows guest OS users to obtain privileged host OS access, aka XSA-222.
The bug was discovered 06/20/2017. The weakness was presented 07/05/2017 as XSA-222 as confirmed security advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at xenbits.xen.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-10918 since 07/04/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
