A vulnerability was found in Apple iOS up to 6.1.4 (Smartphone Operating System). It has been declared as very critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part of the component PDF Image Handler. The manipulation as part of a JPEG2000 Image leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Buffer overflow in ImageIO in Apple Mac OS X before 10.8.5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via crafted JPEG2000 data in a PDF document.
The weakness was released 09/18/2013 by Felix Groebert with Google Security Team as APPLE-SA-2013-09-18-2 iOS 7 as confirmed mailinglist post (Website). The advisory is shared at prod.lists.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-1026 since 01/10/2013. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
