A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in tcpdump 4.9.0 (Packet Analyzer Software). Affected by this issue is the function stp_print of the component STP Handler. The manipulation as part of a Crafted Packet leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
tcpdump 4.9.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap-based buffer over-read and application crash) via crafted packet data. The crash occurs in the EXTRACT_16BITS function, called from the stp_print function for the Spanning Tree Protocol.
