The Push Notifications subsystem in Apple iOS before 7 provides the push-notification token to an app without user approval, which allows attackers to obtain sensitive information via an app that employs a crafted push-notification registration process.
The weakness was disclosed 09/18/2013 by Jack Flintermann with Grouper, Inc. as APPLE-SA-2013-09-18-2 iOS 7 as confirmed mailinglist post (Website). The advisory is available at prod.lists.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-5149 since 08/15/2013. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/25/2021).
