Microsoft SharePoint Server allows an elevation of privilege vulnerability due to the way that it sanitizes a specially crafted web request to an affected SharePoint server, aka "SharePoint Server XSS Vulnerability".
The bug was discovered 07/11/2017. The weakness was presented 07/11/2017 as KB3213544 as confirmed security update guide (Website). The advisory is shared at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-8569 since 05/03/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. An elevation of privilege vulnerability exists when Microsoft SharePoint Server does not properly sanitize a specially crafted web request to an affected SharePoint server. An authenticated attacker could exploit the vulnerability by sending a specially crafted request to an affected SharePoint server.

It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110300 (Microsoft Office and Microsoft Office Services and Web Apps Security Update July 2017).
Applying the patch KB3213544 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at catalog.update.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
