A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Oracle GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4.1 (Application Server Software). This affects an unknown function. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Oracle, GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 4.1 is vulnerable to both authenticated and unauthenticated Directory Traversal vulnerability, that can be exploited by issuing a specially crafted HTTP GET request.
The bug was discovered 06/08/2016. The weakness was presented 07/17/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared at trustwave.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-1000028 since 07/10/2017. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
