A vulnerability has been found in LibTIFF 4.0.8 (Image Processing Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function ZIPDecode of the file tools/tiff2pdf.c of the component tiff2pdf. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. There is a heap based buffer overflow in tools/tiff2pdf.c of LibTIFF 4.0.8 via a PlanarConfig=Contig image, which causes a more than one hundred bytes out-of-bounds write (related to the ZIPDecode function in tif_zip.c). A crafted input may lead to a remote denial of service attack or an arbitrary code execution attack.
The bug was discovered 07/14/2017. The weakness was presented 07/17/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.maptools.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-11335 since 07/15/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
