A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 4.12.2 (Operating System). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function mp_override_legacy_irq of the file arch/x86/kernel/acpi/boot.c of the component ACPI Table Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. Buffer overflow in the mp_override_legacy_irq() function in arch/x86/kernel/acpi/boot.c in the Linux kernel through 4.12.2 allows local users to gain privileges via a crafted ACPI table.
The bug was discovered 07/18/2017. The weakness was released 07/20/2017 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-11473 since 07/19/2017. The attack needs to be approached locally. A authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
