Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Cloud Foundry (Cloud Software) (affected version not known). This affects some unknown functionality of the component Cloud Controller API. The manipulation as part of a Crafted Application leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
An issue was discovered in the Cloud Controller API in Cloud Foundry Foundation CAPI-release versions prior to v1.35.0 and cf-release versions prior to v268. A filesystem traversal vulnerability exists in the Cloud Controller that allows a space developer to escalate privileges by pushing a specially crafted application that can write arbitrary files to the Cloud Controller VM.
The bug was discovered 07/19/2017. The weakness was presented 07/25/2017 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at cloudfoundry.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-8033 since 04/21/2017. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. A authentication is required for exploitation.
