A vulnerability has been found in OpenCV up to 3.3 (Image Processing Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function cv::RLByteStream::getBytes of the file modules/imgcodecs/src/bitstrm.cpp. The manipulation as part of a Image File leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-787. The product writes data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. OpenCV (Open Source Computer Vision Library) through 3.3 has an invalid write in the cv::RLByteStream::getBytes function in modules/imgcodecs/src/bitstrm.cpp when reading an image file by using cv::imread, as demonstrated by the 2-opencv-heapoverflow-fseek test case.
The bug was discovered 08/04/2017. The weakness was published 08/07/2017 (Website). The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-12603 since 08/06/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
