A vulnerability was found in Blue Coat Reporter 9.3 (Reporting Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects some unknown processing of the component HTTP Traffic Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a missing encryption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-311. The product does not encrypt sensitive or critical information before storage or transmission. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was disclosed 12/12/2012 as SA71 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at kb.bluecoat.com. The exploitability is told to be easy. Access to the local network is required for this attack to succeed. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600 according to MITRE ATT&CK. The advisory points out:
By default, administrative connections go over a clear text channel (HTTP) allowing an attacker with access to the network to view, replay, and modify all login and session data.
After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 9.4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at bto.bluecoat.com. It is possible to mitigate the problem by applying the configuration setting Enable HTTPS. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
