A vulnerability was found in D-Link DIR-600 v2.x (Router Operating System) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file model/__show_info.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability (Password). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. D-Link DIR-600 Rev Bx devices with v2.x firmware allow remote attackers to read passwords via a model/__show_info.php?REQUIRE_FILE= absolute path traversal attack, as demonstrated by discovering the admin password.
The bug was discovered 08/06/2017. The weakness was disclosed 08/18/2017 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at youtube.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-12943 since 08/18/2017. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
