A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Zen Cart 1.5.4 (Warehouse Management System Software). This issue affects an unknown function of the file ajax.php. The manipulation of the argument act with the input value .. leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in Zen Cart 1.5.4 allows remote attackers to include and execute arbitrary local files via a .. (dot dot) in the act parameter to ajax.php.
The bug was discovered 12/16/2015. The weakness was disclosed 08/24/2017 as confirmed posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-8352 since 11/25/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
