A vulnerability was found in Double Opt-In for Download Plugin up to 2.0.8 on WordPress (WordPress Plugin) and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown processing of the file class-doifd-download.php. The manipulation of the argument ver as part of a Parameter leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in the Double Opt-In for Download plugin before 2.0.9 for WordPress allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the ver parameter to (1) class-doifd-download.php or (2) class-doifd-landing-page.php in public/includes/.
The bug was discovered 11/24/2015. The weakness was released 08/29/2017 by Larry W. Cashdollar (Website). The advisory is shared at permalink.gmane.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-7517 since 09/29/2015. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 644 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:class-doifd-download.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11557 (WordPress Double Opt-in for Download Plugin Multiple SQL Injection Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 2.0.9 eliminates this vulnerability.
