A vulnerability classified as critical was found in RubyGems up to 2.6.12 (Programming Language Software). This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component gem Handler. RubyGems version 2.6.12 and earlier is vulnerable to maliciously crafted gem specifications that include terminal escape characters. Printing the gem specification would execute terminal escape sequences.
The bug was discovered 08/29/2017. The weakness was presented 08/31/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at blog.rubygems.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-0899 since 11/30/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
