A vulnerability was found in SimpleSAMLphp up to 1.14.13 on PHP 5.6 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function secureCompare in the library lib/SimpleSAML/Utils/Crypto.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a session fixiation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-384. Authenticating a user, or otherwise establishing a new user session, without invalidating any existing session identifier gives an attacker the opportunity to steal authenticated sessions. The secureCompare method in lib/SimpleSAML/Utils/Crypto.php in SimpleSAMLphp 1.14.13 and earlier, when used with PHP before 5.6, allows attackers to conduct session fixation attacks or possibly bypass authentication by leveraging missing character conversions before an XOR operation.
The bug was discovered 05/05/2017. The weakness was published 09/01/2017 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is available at github.com.
