The Windows kernel component on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2, and Windows RT 8.1 allows an information disclosure vulnerability when it improperly handles objects in memory, aka "Win32k Information Disclosure Vulnerability". This CVE ID is unique from CVE-2017-8678, CVE-2017-8677, CVE-2017-8681, and CVE-2017-8687.
The bug was discovered 09/12/2017. The weakness was released 09/12/2017 by Mateusz Jurczyk with Google Project Zero as KB4039384 as confirmed security update guide (Website). The advisory is available at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-8680 since 05/03/2017. Local access is required to approach this attack. A information disclosure vulnerability exists when the Windows GDI+ component improperly discloses kernel memory addresses. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerability could obtain information to further compromise the user’s system.
