Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Oracle JDeveloper 11.1.2.3.0/11.1.2.4.0/12.1.2.0.0. This issue affects an unknown function of the component Java Server Faces. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Unspecified vulnerability in the Oracle GlassFish Server component in Oracle Fusion Middleware 2.1.1, 3.0.1, and 3.1.2; the Oracle JDeveloper component in Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.2.3.0, 11.1.2.4.0, and 12.1.2.0.0; and the Oracle WebLogic Server component in Oracle Fusion Middleware 10.3.6.0 and 12.1.1 allows remote attackers to affect confidentiality via unknown vectors related to Java Server Faces or Web Container.
The weakness was presented 10/15/2013 by Jon Passki (Alex) with Security Research Labs as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - October 2013 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at oracle.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-3827 since 06/03/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 70963 (Oracle JavaServer Faces Multiple Partial Directory Traversals), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses and running in the context r.
