A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in perltidy up to 20120701-1 (Programming Language Software). This issue affects the function make_temporary_filename. The manipulation as part of a Filename leads to a access control vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-284. The make_temporary_filename function in perltidy 20120701-1 and earlier allows local users to obtain sensitive information or write to arbitrary files via a symlink attack, related to use of the tmpnam function.
The bug was discovered 03/10/2014. The weakness was released 10/17/2017 by Jakub Wilk (Website). The advisory is shared at lists.fedoraproject.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-2277 since 03/04/2014. An attack has to be approached locally. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
