This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-7096 since 03/17/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Multiple memory corruption issues were addressed with improved memory handling.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 13 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 108703 (FreeBSD : webkit2-gtk3 -- multiple vulnerabilities (1ce95bc7-3278-11e8-b527-00012e582166) (Spectre)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370577 (Apple iTunes for Windows Prior to 12.7 Multiple Vulnerabilities. (HT208141)).
Upgrading to version 11.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
