A vulnerability has been found in Apple tvOS up to 10.2.2 (Digital Media Player) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component WebKit. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Multiple memory corruption issues were addressed with improved memory handling.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 10 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 103419 (Apple TV < 11 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Misc. and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370577 (Apple iTunes for Windows Prior to 12.7 Multiple Vulnerabilities. (HT208141)).
Upgrading to version 11.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
