A vulnerability was found in Apache Struts up to 2.3.19 (Programming Tool Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function TextParseUtiltranslateVariables. The TextParseUtil.translateVariables method in Apache Struts 2.x before 2.3.20 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted OGNL expression with ANTLR tooling.
The bug was discovered 03/15/2016. The weakness was disclosed 10/30/2017 with Huawei (Website). The advisory is shared at securitytracker.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-3090 since 03/10/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
