A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Apple Mac OS X up to 10.8 (Operating System). Affected is the function IOCatalogue of the component IOKitUser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. The weakness was presented 10/22/2013 by Will Estes as APPLE-SA-2013-10-22-3 as confirmed mailinglist post (Apple Security Mailinglist). The advisory is shared for download at lists.apple.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-5138 since 08/15/2013. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
