A vulnerability was found in Mahara up to 15.04.7/15.10.3/16.04.1 (Content Management System) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function unserialize of the component XML File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. Mahara 15.04 before 15.04.8 and 15.10 before 15.10.4 and 16.04 before 16.04.2 are vulnerable to PHP code execution as Mahara would pass portions of the XML through the PHP "unserialize()" function when importing a skin from an XML file.
The bug was discovered 10/21/2016. The weakness was disclosed 11/03/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.launchpad.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-1000148 since 11/02/2017. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation.
