Details
A vulnerability was found in Net::Ping::External up to 0.15 on Perl. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block of the component Argument Handler. The manipulation as part of a Shell Metacharacter leads to a command injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-77. The product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The Net::Ping::External extension through 0.15 for Perl does not properly sanitize arguments (e.g., invalid hostnames) containing shell metacharacters before use of backticks in External.pm, allowing for shell command injection and arbitrary command execution if untrusted input is used.
