A vulnerability was found in Apache Hadoop up to 3.0.0-alpha1 (Network Management Software). It has been rated as critical. In Apache Hadoop versions 2.6.1 to 2.6.5, 2.7.0 to 2.7.3, and 3.0.0-alpha1, if a file in an encryption zone with access permissions that make it world readable is localized via YARN's localization mechanism, that file will be stored in a world-readable location and can be shared freely with any application that requests to localize that file.
The bug was discovered 11/08/2017. The weakness was released 11/13/2017 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at lists.apache.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-3166 since 12/05/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
