A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Cyberduck up to 4.4.3 on Windows. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component X.509 Certificate. Cyberduck before 4.4.4 on Windows does not properly validate X.509 certificate chains, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof FTP-SSL servers via a certificate issued by an arbitrary root Certification Authority.
The bug was discovered 04/24/2014. The weakness was published 11/15/2017 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-2845 since 04/10/2014. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1587.003 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
