A vulnerability has been found in Apache OpenOffice up to 4.1.3 (Office Suite Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function ImportOldFormatStyles of the component DOC File Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. A vulnerability in Apache OpenOffice Writer DOC file parser before 4.1.4, and specifically in ImportOldFormatStyles, allows attackers to craft malicious documents that cause denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) potentially resulting in arbitrary code execution.
The bug was discovered 10/26/2017. The weakness was published 11/20/2017 by Cisco with Cisco Talos (Website). The advisory is available at openoffice.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-12608 since 08/07/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
