Details
A vulnerability was found in Huawei Honor 9 (unknown version) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component Bastet Driver. The manipulation as part of a Parameter leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The Bastet driver of Honor 9 Huawei smart phones with software of versions earlier than Stanford-AL10C00B175 has integer overflow vulnerability due to the lack of parameter validation. An attacker tricks a user into installing a malicious APP which has the root privilege; the APP can send a specific parameter to the driver of the smart phone, causing arbitrary code execution.
The bug was discovered 09/14/2017. The weakness was published 11/22/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at huawei.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-8205 since 04/25/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 69 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at SecurityFocus (BID 101963†). Similar entry is available at VDB-109939. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
