A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in IBM DB2 UDB 10.1 (Database Software). This issue affects the function XMLSAVESCHEMA of the component Data Management Utilities. The manipulation as part of a Crafted Export leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability.

The weakness was disclosed 09/14/2012 as IC84337 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at www-01.ibm.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with IBM. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

Upgrading to version 10.1 Fix Pack 1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
