Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 4.14.4 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the file net/netfilter/xt_osf.c of the component Access Restriction. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a 7pk security vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-254. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
net/netfilter/xt_osf.c in the Linux kernel through 4.14.4 does not require the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability for add_callback and remove_callback operations, which allows local users to bypass intended access restrictions because the xt_osf_fingers data structure is shared across all net namespaces.
The bug was discovered 12/05/2017. The weakness was shared 12/07/2017 by ERNE (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-17450 since 12/06/2017. An attack has to be approached locally. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation.
