A vulnerability was found in Adobe Flash Player up to 27.0.0.183 (Multimedia Player Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown processing. An issue was discovered in Adobe Flash Player 27.0.0.183 and earlier versions. This vulnerability is an instance of a use after free vulnerability in the Primetime SDK metadata functionality. The mismatch between an old and a new object can provide an attacker with unintended memory access -- potentially leading to code corruption, control-flow hijack, or an information leak attack. Successful exploitation could lead to arbitrary code execution.
The bug was discovered 11/14/2017. The weakness was disclosed 12/09/2017 by bo13oy with Zero Day Initiative (Website). The advisory is shared at security.gentoo.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-11225 since 07/13/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 104547 (KB4048951: Security update for Adobe Flash Player (November 2017)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370653 (Adobe Flash Player Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (APSB17-33)).
Upgrading to version 27.0.0.187 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
