The bug was discovered 12/12/2017. The weakness was released 12/12/2017 by Hui Gao with Palo Alto Networks as KB4054517 as confirmed security update guide (Website). The advisory is available at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-11919 since 07/31/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. An information disclosure vulnerability exists when the scripting engine does not properly handle objects in memory in Microsoft browsers. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerability could obtain information to further compromise the user’s system.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 105182 (KB4053581: Windows 10 December 2017 Security Update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
