A vulnerability was found in StackIdeas Komento up to 2.0.4 on Joomla (Joomla Component) and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file helpers/comment.php of the component Comment Handler. The manipulation of the argument img/url with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in helpers/comment.php in the StackIdeas Komento (com_komento) component before 2.0.5 for Joomla! allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) img or (2) url tag of a new comment.
The bug was discovered 10/02/2015. The weakness was shared 12/27/2017 as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-7324 since 09/22/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
The exploit is available at packetstormsecurity.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 817 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:helpers/comment.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11534 (Joomla! Komento Component [URL] and [IMG] Tag Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability).
Upgrading to version 2.0.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
